This course will introduce students to a variety of the beliefs and practices inherent in the folklore of people in a non-scientific age. Topics will include the interpretations and uses of magic, the lore of death and representations of mortality, household lore, superstitions and omens, rituals and calendar customs, the supernatural world, folk medicine and plant lore and the ‘dark’ side of fairy tales and children’s games.

The Triangle - Community Methodist Church is at the junction of Chorley Old Road and New Church Road Bolton. The entrance is on Chorley Old Road. It can be reached easily by car. Either from the roundabout at the junction of Chorley Old Road and Moss Bank Way or by driving up Chorley Old Road from Bolton. It is well served by buses 125 and 126 dropping you outside the front door on Chorley Old Road. The 501 drops you on New Church Road.
