Description

What is happening when we listen to music? Harmony, rhythm, instrumentation or lyrics? A single piece of music can mean something different to everyone who listens to it. There will be discussion on compositional techniques, historical development and important works by pivotal figures. Knowledge of musical theory is not needed, just a good pair of ears and a willingness to talk about in your own words what we listen to.

Course One - Musical Instruments; their design, development and use.
How does a trumpet work? What is a Pungi? What was that instrument Stevie Wonder played on Superstition?
1. Woodwind
2. Strings
3. Brass
4. Percussion and Keyboards
5. Anomalies - Instruments of Folk, Antiquity and Eastern Traditions
