Description

The Appreciation of Music - what is it that we are listening to when we listen to music? Harmony, rhythm, instrumentation or lyrics? A single piece of music can mean something different to everyone who listens to it. Music is an expansive, multifaceted subject and the aim of this discursive session is to focus on specific aspects, to help broaden your understanding and increase your knowledge of the music you listen to. It looks to introduce you to music you have not heard before as well as unpick the detail of music which is more widely recognized. There will be discussion on compositional techniques, historical development, and seminal works by pivotal figures. A knowledge of musical theory is not needed, just a good pair of ears and a willingness to talk about in your own words what we listen to.
